Iran’s foremost race car driver, Laleh Seddigh, 28, leaves after winning a race at Tehran’s Azadi stadium, 28 January 2005. At the race, the petite woman racer caused many upset by beating off her fellow 12 Proton teammates — all of whom are men — much to the delight of the small group of female fans watching from their part of the segregated stadium. At her day job Seddigh works as a managing director of a trade company that produces spare car parts, but full-time racing beckons with sponsorship offers from Proton, Mazda and Hyundai.
